Limited Edition UNKO x FFB Tee

Local clothing brands Unkommon Kolor and Fur Face Boy released a limited edition collaboration shirt this past Saturday at Centre in Dallas. The shirt was limited to a run of only 40 and there were well over 40 in attendance to celebrate the release with free beer, pizza and DJs.

Check below for pictures of the XS shirt I picked up at the event and for pictures from the event itself head over to Unkommon Kolor’s blog (credit to UNKO for the picture of me with my shirt above) and Fur Face Boy’s blog.

Miss out on last weekend’s event? You’re not going to be able to get one of the collab shirts now, but Fur Face Boy is having a party to celebrate the release of his 2011 summer line this Saturday at 5PM at Shogun in Fort Worth. I’ll be stopping in to check out the new line and staying long enough to eat some of the free ice cream.

Loyal K.N.G. – Daft Bomb

Loyal K.N.G. is a great clothing company based here in Texas. Their current line of tees includes several original creations as well as a Godzilla-themed parody of the flag raising on Iwo Jima and the tee I picked up, the Daft Punk duo riding on a rocket-fueled Bullit Bill. I wish I would have known about the Daft Bomb shirt earlier since I really wanted the purple version of the shirt. Purple or not, I’m still excited I grabbed one of these in XS before they disappeared.

Included with my order was a handwritten note and illustration from Trung as well as various brand stickers. I thought that was all there was until I dug deeper into the package. Also included were an Aipom Pokemon card, a Yu-Gi-Oh card, a Necrosha X leaflet, and a small Avengers poster. Who told them I was a Marvel fanboy? Probably no one. Miscellaneous items like this are half the fun in supporting small clothing brands.

Daft Bomb is printed on an American Apparel tee. I’m pretty sure it’s the fitted 2001 tee, but I could be wrong. The only words I can use to describe this shirt are “spectacularly awesome” and not even they do the shirt justice. Loyal K.N.G. can expect my business again in future.

Fangamer – Bitboy & Bound Around

Fangamer is a legend among a sea of game-inspired products and apparel. Maybe even as far as to say they’re the Rolls Royce of fanboy and fangirl apparel. If you’re not familiar with Fangamer, or simply haven’t heard of them, then you’d be doing yourself a great disservice by not stopping everything you’re doing and heading over to fangamer.net to familiarize yourself with their magic.

This is my second order with Fangamer. My first was the MOTHER 3 Handbook which I preordered several months before it was even printed and released. I’ve visited the Fangamer store every now and then since that order, but I’m always too late on the products I really want. Most notable was Shirtness. I hope they reprint Shirtness in the future. I really want NEED one. As soon as I saw the two shirts from this post in my size I had to get them. Carted. Bought. No missing the boat this time.

Every Fangamer order comes with a piece of art from someone within the Fangamer community. Not only that, but most of their products also come with an accompanying pin, sticker, keychain, or some combination of the former. The Bitboy tee came in its own special packaging made to look like an original Game Boy with the shirt’s size displayed on the screen.

Bitboy is printed on a 50% cotton / 50% polyester American Apparel BB401 tee. Chiptunes and retro mobile gaming on your chest! What more is there to say?

Bound Around is printed on a 100% cotton fitted American Apparel 2001 tee. Go green with Ness and friends! The story of Earthbound is told on this shirt without a word.

No text description can replace seeing the shirts themselves so point your eyes below. It should go without saying, but quality is never an issue when it comes to Fangamer’s offerings.

15 BIT GAMER – The Runaway 5

It’s not often that I sift aimlessly through pages and pages of data on the Internet to ultimately come across something that I can’t live without, but that’s exactly how I found 15 BIT GAMER. Brooklyn-based 15 BIT GAMER launched last November and currently has five game-inspired shirts available for sale on their website.

My pick of the current litter is the Runaway 5 tee which pays homage to Eagleland’s Blues Brothers equivalent from Earthbound. If you’re an Earthbound fan how can you pass this up?

15 BIT GAMER prints their designs on 100% cotton fitted American Apparel 2001 t-shirts and the quality is top notch. Not only do you get a shirt from these guys, but also a couple of freebies including a 15 BIT GAMER sticker and a button. Check the photos below for more.

Fur Face Boy

Fur Face Boy, local clothing brand and graphic designer from Grand Prairie, has been designing unique t-shirts since last year. I became aware of Fur Face Boy’s existence shortly after meeting the Sore Losers and meeting some of the people behind Unkommon Kolor; I knew there had to be other local designers passing under my radar. I was right.

Late last week, after tweeting about my intentions to pick up one of Fur Face Boy’s Series III shirts (specifically the FFB Fancy) I received a DM response with a coupon code good for 15% off my order. Using the code sent over by Fur Face Boy I bought a shirt and then waited for Monday to roll around for it to arrive.

Opening the package Monday afternoon I found the shirt I ordered along with a second shirt and a note written on the bottom of the PayPal receipt. What was this? Threw in an extra shirt for the hell of it? That’s good enough reason for me! When was the last time you bought something and were surprised with extras thrown in “for the hell of it?” Sans promotional items or stickers, it’s only happened to me once. Not that I don’t like stickers, the back of my laptop is covered in them and it’s recently been expanded to include the Fur Face Boy sticker that came with the shirts.

Support your local creatives, whether it be designers of clothing, producers of music, or owners of stores. Not only do you get away from the mundane commercial filth that fills stores and radio stations, but you get to build an actual relationship with the people behind the products.

Find Fur Face Boy’s clothing at Adikt, Centre, Good Records, and We Are 1976 if you’re in the area, or you can always order straight from the source at furfaceboy.com. Follow Fur Face Boy on Twitter, he’ll be the first to let you know when the new FFB lines are released.

P.S. I’ve been sick for a little over a week and been eating lots of soups and drinking lots of hot chocolate. The day I wore the new blue shirt I got Pho splattered all over the thing. It’ll be clean again soon once it meets with the washing machine. Thanks again for the great designs and the extra shirt Ha!
