Last weekend I picked up the Tavares album In The City from Recycled and found, other than the classic tracks pressed on the vinyl, a piece of advertising on the sleeve that would never fly today (plus it wouldn’t be good as a metaphor for a bargain).
The latest in a long line of Warner Bros. ‘Loss Leader’ sampler albums, Supergroup is, track-for-track, today’s best music bargain. (Think of it: 90 minutes of today’s best contemporary music for less than the cost of 4 packs of cigarettes.)
The cigarette comparison would no longer fly. Pretty soon it’ll probably be the other way around – four CDs for the price of a pack of cigarettes. Not only that, but this seems like a trivial matter that people would be up in arms about today. I’ll have you know that I’m up in arms about this piece of advertising, and it isn’t due to the mention of cigarettes. I just want to know why they decided to put the last sentence in parenthesis. The aside is longer than the text that precedes it. What’s the deal with that?
Arriving with a whopping 2.1 hours of free music, Shiny Disco Club put together one of the largest free releases I’ve ever seen. Not only is it disco, which is always great, but it contains tracks from the likes of Bit Funk, Louis La Roche, Moonchild, Rockets, Xinobi, Go Go Bizkitt, and many more. Too good to be true you say? Direct your eyes below and make an attempt to believe them.
I can’t wait to see what comes out of Shiny Disco Club in the future! After a stunt like this they’re easily one of my favorite labels. A close second to D.I.S.C.O.Texas.
Listen to it below or download it! Part 1 – Part 2.
Videos for two of the songs off the new Jamiroquai album Rock Dust Light Star were just put up on YouTube. I’ve already heard White Knuckle Ride along with some remixes, and I can’t put into words how excited I am about this album. I’ve been a long time Jamiroquai fan and he’s a permanent fixture behind my DJ booth.
Without Jamiroquai the last five years of my life would have likely played out much differently. The largest difference would be that the idea to pursue DJing would have never crossed my mind. My first vinyl purchase was Jamiroquai’s Dynamite album. It was intended for framing and hanging on my wall. Long story short it never quite made it into a frame or onto my wall. Instead I picked up a Numark turntable and mixer, hooked it up on the floor of my room, put on a pair of headphones, and listened to it all the way through. Now we’re here. Thanks Jay!
Crizzly, who resides at ghostpizza, destroyed our tiny little minds with the track below. Take Zelda, Dubstep, a lawnmower, and Crizzly and throw them in a blender. Hit puree. The result is below. Don’t worry about the download limit being reached on SoundCloud. Follow through the link below the track and you’ll find an alternate location to download this cultural masterpiece.
I toted around my phone with this track on it at QuakeCon this year to share it with some producers and dubstep heads in the BYOC. Spreading love one step at a time, literally.
Bonus Barrel! This post’s bonus barrel comes from my recent favorites list over on SoundCloud. These are the tracks I just can’t seem to get enough of. If you want to keep up with what I’m stalking over on SoundCloud then you can check my favorites page periodically to see what new tracks have cropped up there. You’ll find my inner-most secrets as well as where I’m digging to bring you the best of the best.
I hear it’s pretty fizzy in Miami this time of year. Good thing, because next Thursday you’ll be able to catch Miami Horror and Fizzy Dino Pop at the Granada Theater for just $12. For those of you without jobs that means that all you have to do is ask twelve people for $1 and you’re in.
I’ve yet to see Miami Horror live, but I’ve been a fan for a while. You should catch them while they’re in town. I’ve been to a lot of Fizzy Dino Pop shows in the past, but when is it a bad time to catch Fizzy Dino Pop live? An added bonus for this show is that Yuria will be back and in effect, so this show will be extra-awesome.
I’ll be there, people I know will be there, and you better be there. No excuses.
The Sore Losers also have a show coming up THIS Friday at the House of Blues. I’m hoping to make it out to that show as well, but I can’t make any promises there. Either way, if your Friday is wide open this late in the week you better fill it with the Sore Losers and the other acts going on that night at the House of Blues.
